Graham Sutherland: Ascot Racing. Southern Railways poster 1935. 102 x 63cms (40 x 25 inches). Signed lower left. Mounted on linen. Roger Berthoud in his biography of Sutherland says ‘(in April 1935) he earned 20 guineas each for six Southern Railway posters, on bathing, rambles, racing, cricket, football and docks. If printed, these have become elusive.’  The printer’s code would suggest that only 150 copies were printed on the 1st April 1935, so a very rare Sutherland poster.
